National Disaster Management Act 2005
The Act provides for the legal and institutional framework for the effective management of disasters. The Act mandates creation of new institutions and assignment of specific roles for Central, State and Local Governments. The Act includes the measures to be taken by the government for disaster management, the role of local authorities, and offences and penalties.
National Disaster Management Policy 2009
Disasters disrupt progress and destroy the hard-earned fruits of painstaking developmental efforts, often pushing nations, in quest for progress, back by several decades.
Keeping this in mind, the National Policy on Disaster Management was adopted in 2009.
National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP) 2019
The National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP) aims to make India disaster resilient and significantly reduce the loss of lives and assets. The plan is based on the four priority themes of the “Sendai Framework,” namely: understanding disaster risk, improving disaster risk governance, investing in disaster reduction (through structural and non-structural measures) and disaster preparedness, early warning and building back better in the aftermath of a disaster.
