Three-day training program on Disaster Risk Management in WASH and Health Institutions was conducted on 27-29th June 2019.

OBJECTIVES

This program focussed on the existing construction practices of critical infrastructures and the scope for retrofitting through Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) outcomes to make it as resilient infrastructure.

OUTCOMES

  • Learning from strength and weaknesses observed during the course of program, GIDM may organize a series of capacity building programs targeting Engineers, Architects, Town Planners etc. working with HFWD (NHM), Education (SSA), R&B, SSNNL, UDUHD etc.
  • Contextualized training module for ToTs and filed level staff may be developed incorporating the engineering aspects of disaster risk management for engineers and architectures
  • The SATCOM based training module in vernacular language “Gujarati” may also be developed so as to be reached out to the larger scale of stack holder across the state

a. Relevance and usefulness of the program

  • The course gave an opportunity to the participants to develop primary knowledge on Basics of DRM and Non-structural components
  • A volunteer list has been developed, the participants of which will contribute to the translation of DRM materials in Gujarati and also act as Resource Persons in future programs

b. Actions points towards increasing the impacts

  • The participants took an initiative to take forward the core learning of the program to their and subordinate levels and GIDM would be requested to intervene if such helps are required
  • ToT may be organized at District level on the same topic or on Basics of DRM, for one day or two days
