Development of DRM plan for Gift City

GIFT CITY is being developed as a high-density urban area covering of 358 ha. with state-ofthe- art infrastructure services in Gandhinagar district of Gujarat. It is envisioned to have 62 million square feet of built-up area (BUA). The major land-use is commercial; occupied mainly by service sector-oriented institutions, however, it also has residential quarters too. Thus, the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Plan for GIFT is expected to be unlike any conventional city’s disaster risk management plan. Recognising the novelty of the project, GIDM collaborated with leading agencies in the field of DRM and developed a plan which not only adheres to the international agenda & frameworks like Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction(SFDRR), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) etc., but also national agendas like Hon’ble PM’s 10 Point Agenda, the National Disaster Management Plan of 2019 and of course, the state Act and Plan. In fact, the plan’s operability has been tested through various stakeholder consultations and familiarisation exercises. The DRM Plan, uniquely, has been developed in 3 parts; the first part consisting of Hazard, Vulnerability, Risk and Capacity Assessment (HVRCA), the 2nd part comprises of the DRM strategies with timelines and finance mechanisms and the 3rd part contains Hazard Specific Action Plans.
