GIDM Initiatives for Systematic Capacity Development

Capacity Development is a central strategy for reducing disaster risk. It builds, maintains and enhances the ability of individuals, organizations and societies to manage their risks.

Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management has adopted a systematic comprehensive approach towards DRR. It encompasses a bundle of target specific pedagogies along with appropriate use of technology to address department specific training needs. This approach has helped the institute to grow in stature.

Virtual Reality (VR) Simulation of an earthquake scenario in school

School safety is one of the most important priorities in Disaster Risk Management and with an aim to indulge in the practice of utilizing the best of technologies to build capacity and hence a culture of disaster resilience, GIDM proudly presents a Virtual Reality (VR) simulation of earthquake in a school.

The simulation has been designed to give the viewers a near-to-real life experience of an earthquake in a school and thereby giving an opportunity to learn how to react effectively during such a situation. VR visualizations are known to be taxing and thus, viewer discretion is advised.
